HIGHLIGHTS OF DENNIS GOMES’
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CAREER IN GAMING
1971 – 2012
Gaming-Related Law Enforcement and Regulatory Highlights
•
As a Nevada Gaming Control
Board Division Chief and Law Enforcement Officer, Dennis
was one of the principal architects of Nevada Governor
Michael O’Callaghan’s plan to eradicate organized
crime from its strong presence in Nevada gaming.
•
Dennis conducted numerous
successful high-profile organized crime and “skimming” investigations of Nevada casinos. He personally conducted the Argent Corporation investigation - the most prominent of these cases subsequently became the subject of the award-winning book and 1995 Martin Scorsese film “Casino”,
starring Robert DeNiro.
•
He developed the casino internal control guidelines that are still utilized by the Nevada Gaming Control Board as its regulatory mandate for all licensed casinos in Nevada.
•
Later as the Chief of the Special Investigations Division of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), he developed the investigative procedures and the internal control guidelines for that agency and conducted the first investigation of a license applicant in New Jersey.
•
In August 2007, Dennis
testified in Federal Court in Chicago as a former Nevada
law enforcement officer in the largest organized crime
case in the history of the United States. The purpose of
the testimony was to provide the mob’s motive for
the murder of the key suspect in his Argent Corporation
investigation. As a result, the five mob bosses who murdered
over 17 people during their reign of terror in the United
States were found guilty and convicted on all charges.
His testimony was utilized by the federal prosecutor in
closing arguments that helped to win the convictions.
